Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not confirming widespread reports that the government has reached a 10.5-million-dollar settlement with Omar Khadr.
Amnesty International Canada says it welcomes news of the settlement, which will come with a formal apology from Ottawa to the former Guantanamo Bay prisoner.
Khadr's lawyers filed a 20-million-dollar wrongful imprisonment lawsuit against Ottawa, arguing the government violated international law by not protecting its own citizen and conspired with the U-S in its abuse of their client.
Asked about the reported settlement today during a visit to Dublin, Trudeau would only say a judicial process that has been underway for a number of years is coming to its conclusion.
