A Police Service Dog is getting the credit for tracking down a wanted man in a Fort Erie shed.
On Friday afternoon, an off duty Niagara Regional Police officer was driving on the QEW near Bowen Road when he spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen driving erratically.
The van exited the QEW at Bowen Rd. and pulled to the side of the road.
The officer approached the vehicle, and the vehicle took off.
Officers responding to the call observed the van speeding near Ridgemount Rd. and then lost sight of it.
An abandoned van was found in the Chapin Pkwy. and Ferry St. area a short time later.
The K9 Unit was called in to track the suspect.
Police Service Dog "K" led officers to a shed approximately 500 metres away.
The driver was located hiding inside the shed.
He arrested without further incident.
A replica firearm was located within the van.
26 year old Allan James Mustard of no fixed address is facing various charges including flight from police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
At the time of this incident Mustard was also wanted by the NRPS for the alleged offences of assault and break and enter.
