The Niagara Regional Police are warning retailers and the public about a distraction style theft that was recently used in Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake.
Over the August long weekend, there were a number of incidents of theft from some local stores.
In multiple stores a man accompanied by a woman and children approached the store salesperson.
The man would say he was tourist and a currency collector and that he was in search of a specific serial number before he left the Canada.
The well-meaning salesperson allowed the man to examine bills from the cash register during which he concealed bills and stole them.
Police would like to remind the public and retailers to be cautious of suspicious behavior, and to call the police and report any similar incidents.
The investigations into these incidents remain ongoing.
Anyone who may have information is asked to call the Detective Constable Derek Watson of the Central Fraud Unit at 905-688-4111 extension 9374.
