Two Port Colborne firefighters are home with their families after being injured while battling a blaze.
Crews were called to 350 Wellington Street yesterday afternoon at 5:15 p.m. after an unattended pot of oil caught fire.
The fire spread to neighbouring units, but thankfully all tenants were able to escape.
The pair of firefighters were taken to hospital with minor injuries related to heat exhaustion and a ceiling collapse.
Fire Chief Tom Cartwright says the 25 firefighters who responded to the blaze did a great job considering the hot temperatures and the intensity of the fire.
Cartwright says this should also serve as a reminder to residents about cooking safety and the importance of smoke alarms.
The tenant was first alerted to the fire thanks to a working alarm.
The damage estimate comes in at $300,000.
