The city of Port Colborne is preparing for flooding and power outages with a windstorm expected later today.
Mayor Bill Steele tells CKTB they just finished cleaning up from the devastating Halloween storm that knocked out power, and flooded areas along the lakeshore.
Steele says they have implemented a new plan that will shut down certain flood-prone areas.
The Lakeview Park and marina area will be shut down later today.
Steele says he doesn't want residents to head down to the waterfront to see the high waves, so the city will be putting up barricades and even handing out fines to people who don't listen to the warnings.
He says it all comes down to safety and he doesn't want to put residents or emergency officials in danger.
Port Colborne along with the rest of south Niagara is under a wind warning today.
Environment Canada says southwesterly winds are expected to gust up to 100 km/hr this afternoon and evening.
The highest wind gusts will be in exposed areas along the Lake Erie shore.
The winds will veer to the west and slowly ease this evening.
