A grassroots water testing group has found extremely high levels of E. coli at Sugarloaf Harbour.
The samples were taken over a six week period by Swim Drink Fish.
Swim Drink Fish is in a joint initiative with Niagara College andĀ the Niagara Coastal Community Collaborative that encourages citizens to test water from lakes all over Ontario.
The City of Port Colborne is now in the process of carrying out their own verified test results.
In a statement released today the City says they are concerned they were not directly notified by Swim Drink Fish, instead heading about the possibleĀ E. Coli levels from a media report.
The two beaches operated by the City of Port Colborne are currently listed as safe for swimming based on a water test result obtained today.
The City will provide any updates as they become available.
