St. Catharines council will discuss the latest developments in the rebuilding of the Port Dalhousie piers.
Mayor Walter Sendzik says he will be heading to Ottawa later this week to meet with the Fisheries and Oceans Minister to discuss plans to rehabilitate the aging piers.
In 2015 the ministry closed sections of the East and West piers at the Port Dalhousie HarbourĀ to vessels, vehicular and pedestrian traffic after the piers were deemed unsafe.
Last spring, federal officials presented three options for rebuilding the aging structures.
Council voting to support a complete rebuild that would allow boats to dock and pedestrians to once again stroll along the piers.
Sendzik says a design based on that option has been completed and now they are waiting for the cost of the project, estimated to be in the $33 million range.
The Mayor adds with water levels so high on Lake Ontario it may be necessary to tweak the design to raise the piers.
