St. Catharines councillors will debate a proposal tonight asking the federal government to transfer ownership of the Port Dalhousie piers to the city.
A motion up for debate notes the popular piers have been closed since March of 2015 restricting public access to a section of the popular waterfront.
The motion goes on to say the community and council support a full restoration of the piers and once repaired would like to see ownership of them transferred to the city.
It also calls on MP Chris Bittle to lobby Ottawa to get the ball rolling on the repairs.
While debuting a plan to replace the aging piers, the federal government has not committed to footing the bill for the pricetag estimated to be between $28 and $33 million.
