Local residents have had their say and they want Ottawa to bring back the piers in Port Dalhousie.
St. Catharines council hearing the results last night of a survey asking you what you would like to see done with the popular piers that were closed in April of last year over safety concerns.
48 percent of respondants say they would like to see the piers rebuilt so they are once again accessible to pedestrians and boats for mooring.
That option will cost the federal government around $33 million.
Council voted to endorse the option and forward the results of the survey to Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Meantime, after no one showed up for a public meeting on a plan to introduce pay by phone parking metres in the downtown core, councillors voted in favour of moving ahead with the pilot project.
Pay by phone metres will be installed in Market Square and along James Street that will allow motorists to park and pay using their cell phones.
The metres will still accept coins.
Mayor Walter Sendzik says the technology comes with an added feature, and will tell drivers which spots are open in that area.
