Residents in Port Weller can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to clinker dust.
CKTB reported yesterday that residents in Port Weller have been worried about the air they breathe.
The clinker dust is used to make Portland cement, and the issue involves the movement of the dust when it is taken from ships and then loaded onto trucks for transport to a concrete company in Woodstock.
Homeowners in the area say the dust becomes airborne and settles on their homes and their cars.
Today, St. Catharines' MP Chris Bittle says after a conversation with the Ministry of the Environment and the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, it is confirmed that there will be no more deliveries of clinker in Port Weller this shipping season.
In a statment on social media, Bittle says the Ministy has found more than the allowable amount of particulate in the air and the operator cannot meet the requirements under the Ontario Environmental Protection Act.
Bittle says clinker is to be delivered in the future, it will be done in sealed containers.
