Premier Doug Ford has rejected a proposed plan to reduce the number of mandatory statutory holidays for retail workers from nine to three.
Unifor President Jerry Dias says the province raised the idea in a conference call with retail sector stakeholders including the union earlier this week.
Under the plan presented by the consumer services ministry, retail workers would only be entitled to Christmas, Good Friday and Canada Day as statutory holidays.
Dias says Ford assured him his government would not proceed with the plan and the premier confirmed that at his daily briefing on the COVID-19 pandemic.
