The National President of Unifor is firing back after Ontario's Premier accused politicians and unions of 'selling false hope.'
Since the announcement that GM would be shuttering the Oshawa Assembly Plant, Premier Doug Ford has said the focus should be on finding new jobs and helping the families.
Yesterday Ford said, "It doesn't matter what GM is saying, it doesn't matter what the union head is saying, it doesn't matter what the Prime Minister is saying, and it sure doesn't matter what the leader of the NDP is saying. If they want to do something constructive, I'm here, but right now, all they're doing is talking. When we hear any of these people talking, all we hear is a bunch of powerful people grandstanding. Deflecting, selling false hope, making empty promises."
He went on to say that in private, those people know the GM plant is not coming back and called on the federal government to work with the Americans to scrap the 'job killing steel and aluminium tariffs' and to scrap the carbon tax.
Since then, Unifor National President Jerry Dias took to Twitter, asking, "Why is the Ontario government so determined to wave the white flag? The only empty promises are the ones that [Doug Ford] made to the workers of Ontario."
Dias continued his condemnation with, "Find new jobs? Seriously - is this the best that [Doug Ford] can do? "
