Several Niagara Falls property owners have been fined for fire code violations.
Three residential landlords were convicted of offences related to failing to install or maintain smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their rental properties.
The fines ranged from $1,000 to $4,000 dollars.
The property owners of the Caravan Inn Motel on Lundy's Lane also fined for not maintaining a fire alarm system.
The motel owners were slapped with a $2,000 fine.
The Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to a residential apartment fire on Saturday evening where a tenant narrowly escaped with his life.
Fire Chief Jim Boutilier warned a more tragic outcome would have happened if the smoke alarm in the apartment had not been working.
Failure to comply with the requirements of the Ontario Fire Code can result in fines of up to $50,000 and/or one year in jail for an individual and up to $100,000 for a corporation
