Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault says people should have the flexibility to sign up for electricity plans that better suit their needs just like they can shop around for different telephone
and Internet service plans.
The minister says the best way to do this is by changing the way the province buys electricity so it doesn't focus on wind, solar or any specific technology.
Thibeault is also questioning time-of-use pricing for electricity that charges much higher rates during peak daylight hours -- a practice critics say unfairly hurts seniors or others who
are home during the day.
Premier Kathleen Wynne admits her government made a mistake by not realizing the affect of its energy polices and is promising some relief for consumers
