The man leading Ontario's charge to bring retail giant Amazon to the province says the bid will not include billions in taxpayer-funded subsidies.
Premier Kathleen Wynne has appointed former T-D Bank executive Ed Clark to head up the Greater Toronto Region's bid to become the home of Amazon's new corporate headquarters.
Clark says providing huge subsidies to the firm wouldn't be fair to other companies that have set up shop in Ontario with little or no government assistance.
He says any bid will highlight other strengths, such as the province's skilled workforce.
However, an official with Invest Buffalo Niagara believes cities will have to pony up at least a billion dollars in economic incentives just to start the conversation.
Both Hamilton and the Niagara Region are looking at submitting bids, while south of the border, Buffalo and Niagara County both say they are interested in securing the Amazon HQ2.
