Premier Doug Ford says his government will address long line-ups at COVID-19 testing centres across the province.
Ford promised that he will unveil plans in the coming days to ensure the wait for virus tests is cut down, but he did not say specifically what those will be.
He says the province is concerned about the pressure increasing demand for testing is putting on hospitals, which run many of the centres.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the government had expected increased demand for testing as schools returned, but conceded it had not expected the surge currently playing out in several parts of the province.
Ford also says the government will soon introduce new guidelines for virus hotspots in Ontario.
He previously warned that if parts of the province could not bring rising COVID-19 rates under control, regional shutdowns might be necessary.
