Public hearings on the provincial government's proposed minimum wage hike come to Niagara tomorrow.
Speakers will be able to present their cases for or against the proposed hike that will see the minimum wage increased from $11.40 an hour to $14 dollars in 2018 and to $15 dollars by 2019.
There are 18 listed speakers for the hearing in the Falls, among them the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce.
GNCC President Mishka Balsom spoke with CKTB`s Lee Sterry and explained why she thinks the minimum wage increase is a bad idea.
Balsom says looking at other places that are increasing their minimum wage, Ontario hasn't been given a realistic timeline.
Seattle has decided to phase in their increase to $15 an hour over 4 years.
California over 5 years.
Businesses in Ontario have been given 7 months.
Balsom also says that there has not been enough research into how the increase will affect the economy, especially as it comes to umemployment and price inflation.
The GNCC will present this to the panel at the hearing tomorrow.
The hearing will be held at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel tomorrow and starts at 9:30 in the morning.
