Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould will be on Parliament Hill this morning where they are expected to formally announce the settlement in Omar Khadr's lawsuit.
A source tells The Canadian Press that the federal government has paid former Guantanamo Bay inmate $10.5 million to settle his long-standing suit over violations of his rights.
Word of the quiet money transfer came last night, on the eve of a hearing in which a lawyer acting for the widow of a U-S soldier Khadr allegedly killed in Afghanistan in 2002 and another soldier who was wounded planned to ask Ontario Superior Court to block the payout.
