A long time Grimsby resident and quadraplegic wants to know why the City of Peterborough has fined him 300 dollars for parking in an accessible spot.
Jake Lawless grew up in Grimsby and is currently living in Maynooth, about two hours north of Peterborough.
He tells CKTB he made the trip down Friday so that he could see Dunkirk at what he says is the closest movie theatre to where he lives.
He says he parked in an accessible spot, left his pass visible on the visor, and left.
"I saw there was a wheelchair spot open right in front. So I pulled in, and I flipped my visor down because my wheelchair parking pass is on the visor. I got out and I went across to the movies and came back to my car and I saw this yellow ticket on the windshield."
Lawless had a bystander reach the 300 dollar ticket for him, and had the same person take a video as proof of what happened.
The video shows what appears to be his parking pass displayed clearly, however Lawless acknowledges the sun may have made it difficult to spot.
He says he tried to go to the city office nearby, but that no one would help him as it was already 4:40pm.
"I explained to them that I lived two hours north of Peterborough and they didn't care. They were like, 'Oh yeah, well tough. You have to deal with it.'"
Lawless says he plans on calling the City of Peterborough first thing Monday morning to try and resolve the situation without going to court.
CKTB has reached out to the City of Peterborough for comment but has not received a response.
