Pelham's Mayor raising concerns over potential cost overruns on policing builds in Niagara.
Board members learning last week that the rate of inflation was not factored into estimates for the new police headquarters in Niagara Falls along with a new station in St. Catharines.
While the new headquarters on Valley Way is complete, work has yet to begin on the new station in the Garden City.
The board learning the two projects are now tracking to exceed the $83 million the budget was originally capped at.
Dave Augustyn telling CKTB if the cost overruns are so high, the St. Catharines site should be redesigned to put it back on track.
While the headquarters came in under budget, Augustyn says the St. Catharines build is tracking to cost $23 million when the initial budget was $10 million.
He says the answer is simple, the board should go back to the drawing table and redesign the site; or they should be willing to resign and let someone else do it.
Pointing to the Burgoyne Bridge, which saw the price-tag balloon from an original $45 million to over $90 million, Augustyn says this is an opportunity to avoid similar cost overruns.
