A shocking incident in Port Colborne this morning after an alleged impaired driver slammed into several cars, even sending one into a storefront.
The NRP say it all started at 10am on King Street as a green pick up truck near Elgin Street collided with a parked vehicle.
The truck continued, colliding with two other vehicles.
The driver again failed to stop and continued southbound on King Street to the intersection of Clarence Street.
Police say it struck a car stopped at the traffic light.
Due to the significant force of the impact the car propelled forward through the intersection and the front glass doors of the Bargain Shop at 38 Clarence Street where it came to rest.
The pickup truck continued south on King street where it collided with 2 more parked vehicles before coming to rest near Catharine Street.
The driver fled the area on foot and was followed by a witness.
Police caught up with the man and made an arrest.
51 year old David Taylor of Port Colborne is charged with Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle, Operating a motor vehicle in excess of 80 mgs of alcohol and 6 counts of Fail to stop at the scene of an accident.
In total, 7 vehicles and 1 building were damaged with the total damages from the collisions estimated at $200,000.
Two people were hurt and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
