Police say a 19-year-old man from Windsor, Ont. has been charged with terrorism on allegations that he was participating in the activities of a neo-Nazi terrorist group.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say the accused filed an application online to join a listed terrorist group, the Atomwaffen Division (also known as National Socialist Order), and offered his skills and commitment to the group.
They say the accused committed several hate-motivated offences in the Windsor area between February and May.
The RCMP say the accused has been charged with ``participating in or contributing to, directly or indirectly, any activity of a terrorist group for the purpose of enhancing the ability of any terrorist group to facilitate or carry out a terrorist activity.''
The Ontario Provincial Police provincial anti-terrorism section and the Windsor Police Service helped in the investigation.
The Atomwaffen Division, which calls for acts of violence against racial, religious and ethnic groups, has been listed as a terrorist group in Canada since February 2021.
