It was a Grey Cup battle that will go down as one of the best ever.
And the Ottawa-heavy crowd at Toronto's BMO field erupted in fits of joy as the Redblacks held on to beat the Calgary Stampeders 39-33 in overtime.
It's the first Grey Cup victory for the city since the Ottawa Rough Riders won it way back in 1976.
Before the game, tailgating reviews were mixed as fans of all colours mingled in a parking lot.
Redblacks fans, who don't get to tailgate in Ottawa, were loving the experience outside the stadium, where beers sold for four bucks and fans grilled hot dogs and calamari.
But some Calgary fans said they preferred the tailgating back home -- and they also complained about 500 dollar ticket prices for the game.
As tradition demands, the mayors of the two cities had a friendly wager on the contest.
So now Calgary's Naheed Nenshi must wear a Redblacks jersey, read a poem chosen by Ottawa counterpart Jim Watson, and donate 10 times the score differential to a food bank in the nation's capital.
