The Niagara Region confirming the Old County Fair Mall in Fort Erie will be the future home of Gilmore Lodge long-term care home.
The 11-acre site will be not only house the redevelopment of the long term care home, but additional residential and mixed use facilities will also be built.
It will be a campus-style build which the Region says will allow for efficiencies to be obtained through shared services such as kitchen, laundry and property maintenance.
It also allows for greater options for alternative service delivery as there are more opportunities to develop partnerships for development or service delivery.
The Region bought the property for $4.2 million.
The old Gilmore Lodge, located at 50 Gilmore Road, is an 80-bed home constructed in 1988.
It is one of three homes operated by the Region that must be redeveloped by 2025 to comply with new provincial building standards.
