Two deaths in less than a week stemming from incidents on the Burgoyne Bridge in St. Catharines has prompted some action by Regional officials.
Niagara Region CAO Carmen D'Angelo has planned a meeting for Thursday morning with with transportation services, the MTO, NRP, EMS, Public Health, Community Services, and staff from the City of St. Catharines on developing a best strategy to deal with recent incidents on the bridge.
He adds a transportation consultant firm will also assist the region in the meeting.
On Wednesday, a 43 year old man fell to his death in what OPP say they are investigating as a suicide, and last Thursday a 19 year old committed suicide jumping from the bridge to the highway below.
The OPP are still appealing for any witnesses to Wednesday's incident that took place around 5:30 a.m.
Earlier this week St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik said he would like to see suicide barriers or netting installed on the bridge to prevent further incidents.
