Due to an ongoing shortage of family doctors in Niagara, the Region is considering making a physician recruiter a permanent position.
The public health committee has voted in favour of hiring a full time recruiter at a cost of $100,000 a year.
The position has been contracted out for the past 16 years.
The Region is currently served by 260 family physicians but needs to add another 60 more in order to meet the needs of residents.
That number has been the same since 2011.
The move still needs the approval of regional council.
