It took an emergency meeting of Regional Council to finally award a contract for the Region's insurance.
After a heated debate last week, council voted against awarding the contract to two different firms.
They revisited the same options again today, and this time went with the company that didn't score the highest but had the lowest bid.
The move means the Region will save taxpayers $240,000 a year but the coverage will be different.
In a tie vote, with Regional Chair Alan Caslin breaking the tie, the Region awarded the contract to Jardine Lloyd Thompson.
The company didn't meet the criteria for the Region's request for proposal but came in with the lowest bid.
The highest scoring bid was from the Region's current insurance provider, which was the only bid that met the RFP's criteria.
