In a close vote, Niagara Regional Councillors agreed to support a motion to ask the province to look into Pelham's finances.
Pelham Regional Councillor Brian Baty put forward a motion asking council to support a town petition requesting the Minister of Municipal Affairs order a provincial municipal audit of the financial affiars and business dealings of the town.
Regional Council spent 3 and a half hours debating the issue and in a recorded vote passed the issue 15-12.
In making his motion Councillor Baty said he wants the issue off the regional table.
Bernie Law from the Pelham group DEBT promised council if they supported the motion they would not make any further presentations to council.
Former town councillor Marvin Junkin who quit last year after accusing the town of having a hidden debt of 17 million also made a presentation to council.
Junkin contends the report by auditor KPMG that found there was no hidden debt was a forensic review and not the forensic audit promised by town council.
The Region's Corporate Services Director Jason Burgess was asked during the meeting if he had concerns about the financial information coming out of Pelham.
Burgess replied saying the audits he has seen have cleared Pelham and he trusts a professional firm like KPMG.
