The on-going saga over Pelham's finances is once again taking the spotlight at the Region.
Lawyers representing the town will make a presentation to Regional Council tomorrow, to make sure the Region complies with a previously signed agreement with Infrastructure Ontario (IO) that helped the town acquire financing for its $36-million dollar community centre.
The issue has cropped up again because the town asked Infrastructure Ontario for the final $15 million to be released to finish construction.
That request, coupled with a November 2017 letter the Region wrote to the IO declaring they would defer future Pelham financing until an auditor's report on the town's financial health was presented, prompted the IO to aks the Region to re-affirm their committment to the original financing.
A staff report included in tomorrow's agenda recommends the Region re-affirm their support.
Pelham Mayor Dave Augustyn says failure by the Region to execute their support will cause financial damage to the Town and will be looked at as a lack of good faith in fulfilling its contractural commitments to the IO and the town.
