The Niagara Region will not be chipping in to help replace the Forks Road Bridge.
The bridge has been closed since October as engineers found the structure was no longer safe for vehicular traffic.
Staff from the city of Welland were asking to region to assume control of the bridge and put $4 million in the budget for demolition, pier testing, and a detailed design.
The request was defeated during the Budget Review Committee, with staff pointing out the bridge is not considered a regional structure as the span was transferred to the city of Welland in 2000.
