The Niagara region says it will work with police to review cases of sexual assault that were labelled unfounded.
The move follows a report in the Globe and Mail exposing deep flaws in the way law enforcement treats sexual assault allegations.
Regional Chair Alan Caslin says he was just as disturbed as everybody when he read the report in the newspaper and wants to see a review on what is happening in Niagara.
Niagara Regional Police Chief Jeff McGuire is expected to deliver a report next Thursday at the next police services board meeting (Feb.16).
Twenty two per cent of sexual assault allegations in Niagara are considered unfounded by police.
