Niagara Regional Council is getting set to start a process to hire a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) but unlike the last time, various safeguards are being put in place.
Council will hold a special meeting Thursday, before their regularly scheduled meeting to outline the CAO recruitment process.
Council will be asked to approve policies and procedures that take into consideration many of the recommendations outlined by Ontario's Ombudsman, following the lengthy investigation into the hiring of former Regional CAO, Carmen D'Angelo.
Ontario's Ombudsman Paul Dube, in his report entitled Inside Job, called the hiring of D’Angelo, "unreasonable, unjust, and wrong”.
The report, which took more than a year to complete, concluded that the CAO hiring process was "tainted by the improper disclosure of confidential information to a candidate”, D’Angelo, who was ultimately hired.
Public Works Commissioner Ron Tripp has been serving as the interim CAO since D’Angelo’s departure.
