Niagara Regional Council will meet in special session this afternoon to discuss the controversial hiring of CAO Carmen D'Angelo.
The meeting, which begins at 2:00 this afternoon, is not without its own controversy.
Regional Chair Alan Caslin who opposed the meeting has said it reeks of political opportunism.
The meeting was called by 18 councillors who want to discuss recent reports in the St. Catharines Standard alleging D'Angelo admitted during a closed door meeting he received help from staff in Caslin's office when he was interviewed for the position.
Another report says unbeknownst to council, D'Angelo's contract was extended to 2021.
