In a 24-2 vote the Region has opted to reinstate an integrity commissioner.
Politicians held a lengthy debate on the matter at the region last night, but decided to hire John Mascarin, who acts as integrity commissioner for the City of St. Catharines.
He was appointed to the post on an interim basis until a competitive search can be undertaken.
The only two councillors opposed to the move were Port Colborne Councillor Dave Barrick and Niagara Falls' Bart Maves.
