Attracting high quality staff to fill some vacanies at the Niagara Region could be tough with the Ford government's recently announced plan to review regional governments and their lower tiers in the province.
The Region eliminated 5 staff members recently, four of those positions being senior management.
Speaking to Niagara in the Morning, Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop says the move creates uncertainty and people aren't going to move from a position of security to a situation where there may not be much security.
Redekop thinks the Ford government may have already made some decisions on the two tier government structure.
"It's hard to imagine that there aren't already some conclusions that have been reached in this whole process and this may just be the usual smoke and mirrors to make it look like there has been some public consultation on the matter."
Acting Directors are currently in charge of the Region's Human Resources, Communications and Economic Development departments.
The General Managers position, a job created by CAO Carmen D'Angelo who remains on medical leave, is not being filled.
