Regional officials will be taking a closer look at our housing needs as affordability remains a major concern in Niagara.
The Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis has been brought on to lead the fact finding 'Niagara Housing Statement', compiling key information such as local demographics and housing trends.
Currently almost half of all renters in Niagara are spending more than 30% of their overall income on rent, compared to 16% of homeowners.
The latest data also shows more than 20% of Niagara residents live in low income housing.
The Niagara Housing Statement will support development of a Regional Housing Strategy implemented through the Housing and Homelessness Action Plan and the Region's official plan.
