Hundreds of people gathered across Niagara to honour the lives of people hurt or killed at work.
Yesterday was Worker's Day of Mourning, a day commemorating workers who have been killed, injured, of who suffer from illnesses due to workplace related hazards.
Niagara Falls NDP MPP and Health and Safety Critic Wayne Gates attended the ceremonies and says, 'in Ontario workplace deaths are going up and standards are going down. We must reverse this and make sure everyone goes to work and comes home when the shift is done.'
According to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, the most recent stats from 2017 show 951 workplace fatalities across Canada - that's up 46 compared to the year before.
23 of those people were between the ages of 15 and 24.
