The provincial government plans to end streaming in Grade 9.
Education MInister Stephen Lecce tells the Toronto Star Ontario is the only place in Canada that divides students into hands-on applied or university and college-track academic levels.
Research has found that streaming disproportionately impacts Black and low income students.
And It severely limitsĀ their chance of graduating and going on to post-secondary education.
Lecce calls the practice discriminatory and that must change.
