Some tense moments at a St. Catharines apartment building after reports of gunshots.
Police arrived at the building in the area of Smythe and Oakdale late yesterday afternoon, where they witnessed residents fleeing from their units.
Police quickly determined there was a man in crisis in one of the apartments.
Members of the Emergency Task Unit, Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team and crisis negotiators were called in.
By 5:00 pm, officer entered the apartment and arrested a man without incident.
Police have since determined that no firearm was discharged by the man.
The loud noise initially believed to be gunshots was a stick or club striking objects within the apartment.
The man was taken to a local hospital to be assessed and receive medical care.
