The Trudeau government is fielding requests from several fronts about bringing an end to a month of backlog-causing rotating postal strikes.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers rejected the time-sensitive offer for its 50-thousand members from Canada Post before Saturday night's deadline.
The union says it responded by submitting a counter-offer it believes forms the basis for a negotiated agreement -- then asked Ottawa to appoint a mediator to the talks.
But CUP-W says as of yesterday at 6 pm it had not heard back from either Canada Post or the labour minister.
The Retail Council of Canada is urging Ottawa to enact back-to-work legislation, saying the postal system is grinding to a halt as the retail industry enters the busiest time of the year.
