A man who transformed American religious life has passed away.
Rev. Billy Graham has died at the age of 99.
Graham was known for his preaching and activism. He became a counsellor to presidents and was one of the most widely heard Christian evangelists in history.
He reached more than 200 million people through his live appearances and millions more through television and radio. Unlike many traditional evangelists, he abandoned narrow fundamentalism to engage broader society.
Spokesperson Mark DeMoss says Graham suffered from cancer, pneumonia, and other ailments. He died as his home in North Carolina this morning.
