Reaction pouring in to a plan that would see the city of Toronto put up road tolls on the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway.
In a lunch-time speech today, Toronto Mayor John Tory is expected to pitch the idea of tolls to raise money for infrastructure and transit.
Bell Media is reporting if the move is adopted, a trip on either of those roads could cost you a toonie.
The Canadian Taxpayer's Federation has already launched a petition asking the mayor to reconsider.
CTF Ontario Director Christine Van Geyn says “If you want to commute on the TTC its’ going to cost you more. If you want to drive into the city it’s going to cost you more. If you want to stay overnight in a hotel in the city, it’s going to cost you more. If you want to buy a house in the city, it’s going to cost you double. Toronto might as well hang out a sign that says ‘for rich people only.’ Because that’s the Toronto John Tory is creating."
