Buffalo Police have recovered the body of one of their own in the Niagara River.
The police department tweeting out at 3:04pm today that the body of missing diver Craig Lehner was recovered today.
The discovery ending five days of intensive searching by law enforcement authorities.
Lehner was taking part in a training exercise on Friday, and disappeared under the water.
Officers on the scene say that 36 year old brought his police dog with him Friday.
They say after it was clear the mission turned tragic, they let the dog out of the van and the German Shepard ran up and down the waters' edge.
Colleagues say it was an emotional scene and as if the dog knew something had happened.
Niagara Regional Police and Fort Erie Fire helped with the search.
