Saskatchewan wants to return the favour and will come to the aid of Ontario in its request to shelter some northern wildfire evacuees.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford asked his Saskatchewan counterpart Scott Moe to take in some residents who need to escape from approaching forest fires - especially near Pikangikum First Nation.
The Indigenous community's chief said evacuation efforts had to be put on hold because there was nowhere for people to go.
But Moe says Ontario helped Saskatchewan battle wildfires in the past, and he will pay it back by taking 2,000 evacuees and sheltering them in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
