It is officially the first day of winter.
Winter arrived this morning at 5:44.
The winter solstice also brings the shortest day of daylight, with only 9 hours, 15 minutes and 6 seconds of it.
For those living in the Southern Hemisphere it's the longest day and first official day of summer.
The good news for us Northerners, after today's winter solstice, the days get longer, and the nights shorter.
