Low turnout marked the second public meeting the city of St. Catharines held to discuss its proposal to switch to a dual duty representation model in time for the next municipal election.
About a dozen politicans and 20 residents turned out last night for the 90 minute meeting at city hall.
The city was forced to call a second meeting on the issue after regional council heard the complaints of a local resident.
George Darte felt a public meeting in October was not an official meeting and asked for a second hearing to discuss the plan that would see six St. Catharines city councillors serve as both municipal and regional councillors in a dual role.
The move would cut the number of St. Catharines politicians from the current 18 to 12.
The proposal still needs the approval of regional council and the majority of Niagara's municipalities representing two thirds of the population.
