The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook with the rain and high winds expected Tuesday.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is forecasting Lake Erie water levels in Port Colborne to increase due to surge by 1.0 metres over current water levels with significant wave heights exceeding 1.5m.
Peak water levels are forecasted to occur late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning and will start to recede Wednesday afternoon.
The NPCA says there is an increased risk of shoreline erosion and flooding resulting from strong wave action and surge.
Residents living along Lake Erie are urged to monitor the situation closely.
Officials also noting that Lake Erie water levels are well above the long-term historical average and are forecasted to remain elevated through spring 2019.
They says the potential for shoreline flooding and erosion is greater at this time due to the higher than normal Lake Erie water levels.
