The Progressive Conservative government plans to introduce legislation to exempt all Royal Canadian Legion halls in Ontario from paying property tax.
Many Legion halls in Ontario are already exempt from property taxes paid to municipal governments.
But the legislation announced today by Premier Doug Ford would ensure all property occupied by the more than 400 branches of the Ontario Command of The Royal Canadian Legion would be exempt from such taxes, starting next year.
Ford told a veterans' appreciation luncheon that legion halls play a vital role in communities across Ontario and the legislation is the least his government can do to recognize and honour the service and sacrifices made by members of the military.
