SIU called in to investigate crash involving OPP

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding injuries sustained by a 29yearold man in NiagaraontheLake.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding injuries sustained by a 29-year-old man  in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The SIU says the incident happened shortly after the noon hour yesterday, when an OPP officer began following a vehicle westbound on the QEW travelling at a high rate of speed.

The driver exited the highway at Glendale, lost control of the car and hit the ditch.

The driver was then airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

A passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital, treated and released.

Five investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to investigate the incident.

The SIU is appealing to anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 ext. 2293.

The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
