The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a crash on the QEW in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
It happened yesterday afternoon on the QEW Toronto bound near Glendale Ave.
The SIU says an OPP officer was operating radar on the highway when he noticed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed.
The officer started to follow the vehicle when the vehicle exited the QEW at Glendale Ave., lost control and ended up in a ditch beside the ramp.
The driver of the vehicle, a 29 year old man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
The passenger of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital, but was not diagnosed with any serious injury and was released.
Five investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to investigate this incident.
The SIU is appealing to anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 ext. 2293. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death or serious injury.
